ah, i remember we did these chladni experiments in 8th grade! a metal plate with sugar on it, and stroking it with a violin bow, – we were mesmerized! bourke’s 3d implementation of it, and yours, brings the principle to another dimension, litterally speaking!
Wish we had done anything so interesting in school science classes…
The Chladni visualisation is cool, but I think I still prefer the Blob and Borg ones, in purely visual terms.
I’m going to try and add a few more surface equations to the same basic framework. At the moment, I’m mainly rejigging the controls, adding smoothing to control values, and integrating support for the SpaceNavigator 3D controller. I may eventually even release it
lucky me, going to a waldorf school! the teacher was really dedicated. i guess it all was even more artistically and philosophically inspiring than purely scientifically. looking forward to your development on this. too!
I would LOVE to play with this in quartz… Can you make public your GLSL code??!!!
On a similar note, does this still rely on Paul’s dual value inputs? Or can it run from sound input?
Sorry for the long delay- I’ve got involved in other stuff lately, and haven’t had so much time to update the blog.
Have a look at the QTZ in the Box.net widget in the right sidebar of the blog called ‘tb_trierRaycast_ali.qtz’, if you haven’t already discovered it.
